The Vicksburg Police Department has determined that the shooting of a teenager on Monday was accidental; however, the gun used was stolen.

Officers responded a call where a juvenile had been shot in the head in the 200 block of Demby Drive on Monday at 5:21 p.m.

The victim, a 15-year-old male, was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he is in critical but stable condition. Previous reports had put the victim’s age at 16.

Investigators determined that the shooting was an accident, but they took the young man suspected of firing the gun, also 15, into custody when they discovered that gun had been reported stolen in an auto burglary earlier this month.

Now suspected of the auto burglary, Police transported the young man to the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center, and he will appear in youth court. A second juvenile has been also arrested in connection with the burglary.

In an unrelated incident, officers responded to the BG Jr convenience store, 4110 Clay Street, in reference to an auto burglary on Monday, April 6, at 6:28 a.m. The complainant stated someone entered a trailer and took two 12-ounce bottles of chocolate milk.
