$1 million donation given to JSU to aid in scholarships, renaming of campus lobby in honor of Brig. Gen. Crear

A $1 million donation was given to Jackson State University to aid in STEM scholarships and allow for the renaming of a campus lobby in honor of Brig. Gen.(Ret) Robert Crear.

John Nau, board member of Friends of the Vicksburg National Military Park and Campaign has made a $1 million donation to Jackson State University.

The donation will provide for scholarships majoring in science, technology, math and engineering to include those enrolled into the ROTC program and allow for the naming of the lobby of the College of Science Engineering and Technology in honor of Crear.

Crear retired in 2008. Obtaining the rank of Brigadier General, he served worldwide and commanded at every level. Crear served in high leadership positions with the US Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), served as the military assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works at the Pentagon. Crear’s experience also include his service as Assistant Director of Civil Works at the Corps headquarters in Washington D.C., commanded the Vicksburg District Southwest Division and the Mississippi Valley Division and has served as the president of the Mississippi River Commission.
