12 children taken to hospital after birthday pool party

What began as a birthday pool party led to 12 children being transported to Children’s of Mississippi.

On Sunday, at around 2:30 p.m., Flowood police were alerted to a medical call at the YMCA pool. The report states children were choking after swimming in the pool at the Flowood YMCA.

Police Chief Rickey McMillian told WLBT he was told there was a pump issue that wasn’t circulating chlorine and was causing extra fumes.

The children were said to be in stable condition and most were closely monitored at the emergency room.
