Nov. 2, Riverwalk Casino hosted its 12th annual Bras Along the Bridge walk on the Old Vicksburg Bridge from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Attendees consisted of breast cancer survivors and supporters prepared to take a journey across the bra adorned bridge.

“I was diagnosed with cancer over four years ago, and I’m a survivor,” said Candice Amy, “and my family and I, we just came out here to support other survivors and all the people that are battling and that lost their battle. We always come out for breast cancer.”

During the month of October, the casino gathered donated used and new bras from various locations in Vicksburg and Jackson. For each bra donated, the organization committed to give $1 to the American Cancer Society.

The funds go mostly to help people fighting breast cancer with transportation to get to and from appointments, pay for treatment and purchase what they need to help them win their fight.

Each year, Riverwalk has donated more money than the previous year. Last year, the total donated was $11,612 and in 2017, $9,794.

This year’s amount was revealed during a check presentation to Wendy Hutchins of the American Cancer Society this morning.

“Thank you to everyone who supported us and thank you to everyone who joined us here today,” said Ginny Tzotzolas, Riverwalk Casino general manager.

“I know it was chilly. but it’s a wonderful cause, which is why we keep doing it. We raised $12,103, which brings our twelve year total to $167,000—just for you supporting us and sending us your bras. So thank you so much, we are extremely grateful.”

Riverwalk hopes to continue to expand and grow the event in the future with more involvement from the city.

“Raising funds and raising awareness in the fight against breast cancer is so important,” said Riverwalk Casino General Manager Ginny Tzotzolas. “We look forward to continuing our efforts for years to come.”
