16-year-old leads Vicksburg officer on a chase that ends in a crash

A 16-year-old led a Vicksburg police officer on a chase that ended in a crash Tuesday morning.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, a Vicksburg police officer stopped a 2004 Chevrolet Impala traveling north on U.S. Highway 61 North. The vehicle stopped near the County Lane intersection but took off as the officer approached on foot.
The vehicle then turned onto Culkin Road near Abe’s Tire, then turned left and crossed the overpass over Highway 61 with the officer following, attempting to catch up. Near the intersection of Culkin and Kolb roads the vehicle left the roadway and rolled over.
The 16-year-old driver was taken to Merit Health River Region and later transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson as a precaution.
The driver was cited for driving without a driver’s license or insurance, and for reckless driving.
