18-wheeler catches fire on I-20 – VIDEO
An 18-wheeler caught fire on I-20 East this morning.
At approximately 9:15 a.m., the truck was traveling eastbound on I-20 when the fire broke out. According to witnesses, the fire started in the rear axle of the tractor and quickly spread. Deonta Selvy, Sr with D and T Mobile Express Services attempted to extinguish the fire using water from his work truck, which is typically used for washing vehicles. However, Selvy reported that despite his best efforts, the fire was too intense to be put out completely.
I-20 East was shut down for 15 minutes or so while units with the Vicksburg Fire Department, including Engine 2, worked to extinguish the fire. Emergency Management, Rescue, and Warren County’s 209 from Culkin responded to assist with the fire.
Once the main fire was out near the axle, items inside the trailer caught fire but were quickly extinguished by firefighters.
I-20 has reopened, but traffic is slow through the area.
