18-wheeler catches flames after blowout on Highway 465

At around 2:30 p.m., an 18-wheeler hauling corn from Eagle Lake snarled traffic for about 20 minutes on Highway 465 after its cargo trailer tires caught flames.

According to reports, the 18-wheeler suffered a blowout and was unable to bring the truck to a stop before the tires flared up. Traffic around the area was temporarily impacted about a mile and a half from Highway 61.

Firefighters from Culkin and Eagle Lake responded. Chris Libbey, Jerry Briggs, Chuck Tate and Lamar Fredrick were on the scene to assist in getting the blaze under control.

Traffic began moving about 20 minutes after the incident and is currently flowing around the area.

No injuries were reported. However, part of the load which was headed for the granary was lost.
