Just after 9:30 a.m, a truck and an 18-wheeler collided on Highway 61 South at Pemberton.

According to an eyewitness, the 18-wheeler ran a red light and collided with a pick-up truck in the intersection.

The collision caused a fire to start in the engine compartment while the driver of the vehicle was trapped in the front seat. An unnamed citizen had a fire extinguisher and was able to put the fire out. McKinley Skipper with the Warren County fire service was heading southbound on 61 South and was immediately on the scene to assist. Anna Cole was also in the area and off duty from the Vicksburg Fire Department. She was also southbound on 61 South and pulled up to the accident scene to assist.

Rescue was able to free the passenger from the front seat using the spreaders, commonly called “The Jaws of Life.” The individual was safely removed from the vehicle by Rescue with the help of Fire Medic 80, and Engine 8. Battalion 1, Henry Williams, and Traffic 1, Bobby Jones, arrived on the scene.
