A former Central District public service commissioner has passed away.

Neilsen H. Cochran served on the PSC from 1984 to 2007. Prior to that, he served on the Jackson City Council, first winning that seat in 1977.

He was the brother of former U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran, who died in May.

Gov. Phil Bryant announced his death in a tweet.

Cochran was born in Pontotoc, Miss., in 1941. He was married to the former Connie Dell of Aberdeen, S.D., and they have two sons, Scot and Jason.
