2019 Mississippi State Fair to include an ice-skating rink

Tired of the same old attractions at the Mississippi State Fair? This year’s fair will feature something completely different: a place to practice your moves on the ice.
Mississippi’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson announced Aug. 9 that the 2019 fair will include an indoor ice-skating rink.
The rink will be constructed inside the Mississippi Coliseum, and admission will be $10 per person.
“This is a great opportunity for families and their children and grandchildren to cool off for a bit in between the many rides and attractions found along the Midway,” Gipson said in a statement.
Magic Ice USA, based in Miami, Fla., will construct, manage and operate the rink. The finished attraction will feature 8,000 square feet of real ice, not a synthetic substitute, and more than 15,000 square feet of common areas, including seating, concessions and stations for changing skates. Magic Ice USA is providing 500 pairs of skates, presumably to rent.
The Mississippi State Fair is open from Oct. 2 through Oct. 14 in Jackson, with a gate admission price of $5 per person. Children under the age of 6 get in free. For more information, visit the Mississippi State Fair website.
