Vicksburg-Warren School district had 22 individual teams to be recognized as Scholar Athlete Teams.
Athletic Director Preston Nailor made the announcement at the VWSD Board meeting on Thursday.
According to Nailor, 22 of the 32 high schools were recognized by the Mississippi High School Activities Association as Scholar Athlete Teams.
In order to be a Scholar Athlete Team, a team must have a grade point average of 3.0 composite. It was confirmed 10 teams from Vicksburg High School and 12 from Warren Central High made the outstanding list.
“Our kids are doing a great Job inside and out of the classroom and I don’t think people understand how important athletics and activities are to the production and well being of our children,” Nailor said.
Nailor praised the student-athletes for keep up their grades especially during a time where sports suffered during the pandemic.
As of now, some of the athletic teams are participating in summer sports and while they can also celebrate knowing that they exceeded in the classroom.
