3 Miners Trapped In Kentucky Mine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A state official says three miners are trapped in a flooded underground coal mine in southeastern Kentucky.
Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet spokesman Dick Brown says the men were caught in the mine near Middlesboro on Monday morning when portion of the mine entrance collapsed, causing a diversion ditch with water in it to fall in.
Brown says the men were trapped by the water but seem to be fine.
The mine is owned by Bell County Coal.
Middlesboro, in the southeastern portion of the state along the Tennessee and Virginia borders, experienced heavy rains overnight and the National Weather Service has issued a flash-flood warning for the region until late afternoon.
