Accident with injuries blocking Highway 3

The Mississippi Highway Patrol and first responders are on the scene of a crash involving a log truck and a passenger vehicle on state Highway 3 just north of the intersection with U.S. Highway 61 North.

The log truck was headed north on Highway 3 when it overturned, spilling logs onto the roadway in both directions.

A passenger vehicle in the southbound lanes was struck by the logs, according to MHP Sgt. Kervin Stewart. The driver of that car was seriously injured. She was transported by ambulance to Merit Health River Region and was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center from there. The extent of her injuries is not known.

Traffic is blocked in both directions and will be until about 10:30 a.m. or longer. Please avoid the area.
