A living miracle: Bertha Drake celebrates her 100th birthday
On Saturday September 10, 2022, friends, family, and members of the community gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday of Mrs. Bertha Hudson Drake.
Born in 1922 in Hollandale, Mississippi, Drake is the fourth of seven children and the only surviving member. She is the mother of seven children Charles, LeAndrew, Betty, Florean, Billy, Mildred, and Lois. Drake also has 72 grandkids, 39 great grandkids, and 11 great great grandkids.
Drake was the wife of Mr. Leon Drake for 68 years until his death in 2012. Til this day she loves old spiritual songs and her favorite motto is “trust in the lord and do good.”
Elected officials Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. and State Representative Oscar Denton also showed up to wish Mrs. Drake a happy birthday.
The birthday celebration began with Drake’s children reminiscing about their childhood and how life was great with a mother like Drake, followed with a song by her son Billy.
LeAndrew Drake also shared some stories from the past and Betty sung her mother’s favorite song.
Mildred then shared a poem followed by Lois who shared some family reflections.
Rep. Denton also presented some kinds words for Mrs. Drake on her special day.
Lois wrapped things up by sharing more wonderful things about her mother as a host of individuals waited their turn to her well.
