Abby Morgan surpasses 100 strikeouts

Warren Central High School softball player Abby Morgan has plenty to celebrate as she surpassed 100 strikeouts on Thursday.
Morgan threw six K’s in a 1-0 loss to No.1 ranked Northwest Rankin that put her total at 105 as of Thursday.
“This was a big goal for me but I mainly just worry about our wins and not just my strikeouts because I much rather have team wins,” Morgan said.
Morgan’s senior year has been filled with impressive performances such as when she struck out nine batters in both Germantown and Clinton earlier in the season along with throwing a no-hitter against Pearl in a 12-0 win.
In 2022, Morgan threw 91 strikeouts and her numbers are continuing to excel as time continues to prove that the Holmes CC signee is at the top of her game.
“I feel like I’ve improved a lot since last year and I’ve definitely shown what I can do,” Morgan said. My hitting can be a little better but I really stepped up on my pitching because I focused a lot over the summer.”
Morgan was due to gain her 100th strikeout against Clinton last Tuesday but a cancellation forced her to face the top team in the state.
Although Northwest Rankin has a big name in softball, Morgan stepped up with no issue and sent Chloe Miller back to the dugout to earn her 100th K.
Not only did Morgan meet that goal on Thursday but she was a key reason on why the Lady Cougars didn’t earn a hit until the fifth inning.
Before the weekend, Morgan was at 105 strikeouts but WC played against Clinton on Friday where she shined once again with a 14-strikeout performance to put her at 119 K’s.
The Lady Vikes still have six games left in the regular season and they will host Pearl on Tuesday night.
