AKA Mu Xi Omega Chapter celebrated Arbor Day by planting trees at three schools

The ladies of the Mu Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated completed their “Enhance Our Environment” initiative on Friday which was Arbor Day.

The sorority celebrated Arbor Day by traveling to South Park Elementary, Warrenton Elementary, and Vicksburg High School where they planted trees at each school to help save energy. Students were also allowed to come out and help with the tree planting.

Many people came out to witness the event where Mayor George Flaggs Jr., Mu Xi Omega Chapter President Pamela Newton, VWSD board member James Stirgus, and First Vice President Jannifer Banks all shared some words at the ceremony.

This was the first year for this initiative and they will do it again in 2024.
