Alabama duo apprehended after police chase for alleged theft from yard sale

On Monday morning, authorities in Jackson launched a pursuit after a pair from Alabama allegedly stole items from a yard sale in a neighborhood located in Madison, WLBT reports.
The incident was initiated close to 9 a.m., when local law enforcement in Madison were alerted about individuals who had reportedly stolen various objects, such as fuel containers, from a yard sale taking place in the Windsor Hills area.
Law enforcement officers identified the suspected 2003 model Toyota Tundra pickup on Highway 463, near the Interstate 55. When officers attempted to halt the truck, it darted away on the I-55 freeway heading south, prompting a police chase.
Further information gathered revealed that the implicated vehicle had been reported as stolen from Walker County, Alabama.
The pursuit persisted on the I-55 highway until the vehicle turned west onto Beasley Road and proceeded south via State Street. As the chase carried on, the Capitol Police Department stepped in to provide backup.
Maintaining its course southward along State Street, the Toyota subsequently swerved west onto Highway 80, before veering north onto the I-220. Afterwards, the truck left the I-220, going east onto West Capitol Street, and eventually turned north onto Congress Street. Here, the suspects finally halted their vehicle and surrendered to the waiting officers.
In the midst of this pursuit, a collision occurred involving a Capitol Police vehicle and another civilian vehicle on State Street near East Rankin Street, although no injuries were reported.
44-year-old Steven Garner faces charges for possession of stolen goods, evading arrest in a felony manner, and minor theft. He is also a suspect in a case involving possession of stolen goods and attempting to escape authorities in Cullman County, Alabama.
51-year-old Dana Morales is being held for charges of possession of stolen goods and conspiracy to commit an offense. Morales is also a person of interest in a case involving possession of stolen goods in Cullman County, Alabama.
At present, both are detained in the Madison County Detention Center with bail yet to be set.
