Alabama toddler still missing after a week’s intensive investigation

Birmingham, Ala., police are hoping a grainy video will help them find 3-year-old Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney, now missing for a week.

McKinney was at a birthday party in her neighborhood last Saturday evening when she disappeared. The video shows her outside playing with another toddler when a man briefly stops and appears to speak to them. The children follow him as he walks out of the frame. You can watch the video here.

Birmingham police have mounted a no-holds-barred investigation and search for Cupcake with little to show for it.

“I don’t believe that a lot of planning went into it. I think it was maybe something done impromptu,” Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith said at a news conference yesterday. “In my heart, I believe that she is in and around the area and we are hoping to bring her home safely.”

Last week, two individuals of interest in the investigation were questioned. Derrick Irisha Brown and Patrick Stallworth were arrested on unrelated charges, and Stallworth has been released on a $500,000 bond.

The FBI lists the case as a kidnapping. Kamille was last seen wearing a pink T-shirt with a leopard print Mickey Mouse face, leopard print shorts and no shoes. She wore yellow, white, and blue hair bows. She’s about 3 feet tall and weighs 60 pounds.

Smith also announced that the reward for information leading to solving the case now totals $33,000. The funds include an Alabama Crime Stoppers reward, and additional funds from Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey and members of the Jefferson County Commission.
