Alcorn State University  football picked up their first win of the season in a 30-19 victory over McNeese State on Saturday.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Braves managed to score three touchdowns in the second quarter beginning with a 13-yard score from Niko Duffey. Jarveon Howard also scored from 11 yards out and shortly before halftime Aaron Allen hit Monterio Hunt for a 89-yard touchdown as ASU went up 21-3.

McNeese found their way into the end zone in the third quarter while still trailing 21-10. The Braves would then respond with a 29-yard field goal by Noah Kiani. He would also nail a 38-yarder and a 21-yarder to give the Braves their final scores.

McNeses profited from a safety and a 21-yard touchdown pass but it would not be enough to take down the Braves.

Niko would finish with 61 rushing yards on 14 carries and Howard finished with 74 yards and one touchdown.

Terrance Ellis led the defense with six tackles and two sacks while Devin Dawson added five tackles with two sacks. Keyron Kinsler also grabbed five tackles along with a fumble recovery.

The Braves will be at home on Saturday to face to host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the SWAC-opener at 6:00 p.m.
