Alcorn State University football team had a tough season opener against North Carolina Central in a 23-14 loss.

The Braves had no problem getting in the end zone at the beginning of the game when quarterback Felix Harper tossed a 20 yard touchdown pass to Juan Anthony.

Alcorn’s defense played its part by keeping NCC scoreless until late in the second quarter where they would eventually score and tie the game at seven just before halftime.

NCC gained plenty of momentum before halftime and came out in the second half with another touchdown by Davius Richard who punched it in from one yard out. The extra point was blocked and ASU trailed 13-7.

Harper quickly responded for the Braves as he threw a four yard touchdown to Niko Duffey to give ASU a 14-13 lead.

NCC would soon capitalize on a field goal and a 77 yard punt return to win the game 23-14 to upset the 2019 SWAC Champions.

Alcorn will be back on the field on September 11 against Northwestern State.
