It's going to be bad

The Vicksburg Daily News has received word that all area schools will be closed on Monday in anticipation of Hurricane Ida.

The storm is expected to enter the area in the next few hours and intensify well into Monday night.

All schools, county offices, city offices and courts will be closed as a result other than emergency responders.

Sheriff Pace and Emergency Management Director John Elfer are requesting that everyone stay off of the roads because of the danger headed our way. Shelter in place and keep an eye out for your elderly or disabled neighbors.

Sustained winds of 50 mph plus along with driving rain will cause trees to fall. Treat every fallen tree as if there is a power line in it.

Flash flooding is expected. Do not cross flood waters on a roadway.

During hurricane Katrina the only fatality in our area was entirely avoidable. Stay home.

Be safe.
