Almost 29,000 students quarantined throughout Mississippi last week

Almost 29,000 Mississippi students are in quarantine across the state of Mississippi. The total represents reported positive and quarantined students as of August 24, at 8:30 a.m.

A total of 386 new outbreaks were reported across the state this week. In total, 945 teachers and staff and 5,763 students tested positive for COVID-19 during the week of August 16 to August 20.

Since the beginning of August, 2,383 teachers and staff have contracted the virus. As of last week, 1,132 teachers and staff members were in quarantine, along with 28,990 students.

Since the beginning of August, 11,766 students across the state have tested positive for the virus.

In Warren County schools, last week saw an increase in quarantines from Beechwood Elementary,45 and Redwood Elementary, 62 over the other schools throughout the county. The next highest quarantine figure from the Vicksburg-Warren School District showed 22 students were quarantined from Warren Central Intermediate.

According to the report released by the MSDH, Warren County has experienced positive COVID cases at the following schools:

  • Warren Central High School
  • Warren Central Intermediate
  • Warren Central Junior High School
  • Warrenton Elementary
