COVID-19 Update

Mississippi’s COVID-19 cases increased by another 57 cases as of 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24. This morning, the Mississippi State Department of Health announced the second death in the state from the virus.

Mississippi now has a total of 377 confirmed cases and two deaths. No cases have yet been confirmed locally in Warren, Issaquena or Claiborne counties, although neighboring Hinds County has reported 38 cases.

More cases are being reported in people over 70 than in any other age group, however people in all age groups have been diagnosed with the virus. Twenty-seven percent of Mississippi’s cases have required hospitalization.

As of March 24, 1,943 people have been tested by the MSDH Public Health Laboratory. The numbers tested by private labs are not available.

Anyone with symptoms of fever, severe cough or severe chest pains – especially those who are older or in poor health – should call their doctor or health-care provider for instructions on safely being examined. Healthcare providers can assess your health history and symptoms and perform testing for COVID-19 as needed.
