Another multi-vehicle pile up on I-20 at the construction

At about 7:20 p.m. Friday night, numerous callers reported a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 westbound at the construction zone over Clay Street.
This is the 3rd multi-vehicle crash at that exact location in 2 weeks. On Feb 9, 2022, two 18-wheelers crashed at that location shutting down the interstate for hours. On Feb 12, 2022, 6 vehicles piled up, again shutting down the interstate for hours.
Last night 5 vehicles collided in a fender bender at that exact same location but were able to pull off to the side of the road. Moments later, according to radio reports, a second and more serious crash occurred when an SUV struck a pickup truck.
The original radio call on the second accident reported the SUV was on fire and 3 people were trapped in the vehicle.
The Vicksburg Daily News was able to report live on the accident before first responders could work through the traffic jam to get to the vehicles. We were able to report the vehicle was only smoking and not on fire. By the time units arrived on the scene everyone was out of that vehicle. Traffic was flowing slowly through an open lane that was shut down once fire, rescue and law enforcement arrived on the scene.
Numerous units with the Vicksburg Fire Department, Fire Medic units and several police officers and a State Trooper all were able to safely direct traffic.
Traffic-1, Bobby Jones, took control of the scene and deftly managed to gather all the information needed while clearing the roadway within an hour and a half of the accident occuring.
