Apartment fire on Markham Street in Vicksburg

Vicksburg firefighters responded to an apartment building at 1001 Markham St. Wednesday just before 1 p.m.

No one was hurt, and the cause of the blaze is unknown at this time. Deputy Fire Marshall Kayla Riggs and Vicksburg Fire Investigator Nathaniel Williams are trying to determine the cause of the fire.

Two cats were rescued. Capt. Chris Holman brought the first one out and Capt. Aaron Greer the second.

The building is owned by Tim and Lucy Derosette.

Vicksburg Fire Department Engine 6, 7 Platform, Rescue, FD-1,2,3, Battalion 1 and Fire Medic 80 all responded to the scene.
