Fish in trees? Indeed. Dead fish.

Contributors to the “Forgotten Backwater Flood” Facebook page provided stunning photos of some of the devastation left behind now that water is receded from the South Delta. Among them are photos of fish killed by the stagnant and often toxic flood.

This comment accompanied the photos: “Another first experience in the backwater area – Thousands of dead fish in trees! With not enough oxygen in the stagnant backwater, thousands of fish here died, and as the water went down, the fish are left hanging in the dead trees and bushes.”

Another contributor added the photo of the water’s surface with floating fish.
