Thursday, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Vicksburg Police responded to Carter’s Jewelry at Pemberton Plaza, near Kroger in reference to a robbery.

Initial reports indicated a suspect stated they had a gun, but did not display it. The suspect stole an unknown amount of jewelry and fled in a silver GMC. The vehicle apparently traveled east on Interstate 20. Radio traffic indicated the vehicle may have a flat tire after hitting a curb while leaving the scene of the robbery.

A BOLO (Be On the Look Out) was issued for the silver GMC.

Master Sergeant Kervin Stewart with the MHP responded to the BOLO that he had earlier noticed a vehicle matching that description was disabled on the side of Interstate 20 near mile marker 21 in Hinds County. An MHP was near that location and traveled to see if the vehicle was still there.

Shortly thereafter, the MHP unit radioed that a vehicle matching that description was still on the side of the road and a second vehicle, a gray Kia, was also there assisting with a flat tire. The Trooper noted both driver-side tires were flat.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace responded to the radio traffic and stated that he and Deputy Johnny Beauchamp were en route to the location of the disabled vehicle. When they neared the scene the Sheriff could be heard on the radio advising the safest way to take the suspects into custody. A couple of minutes later radio traffic indicated three individuals were in custody, two females who were on the ground on the side of the interstate and a male who had attempted to flee. He crossed four lanes of interstate traffic and was apprehended on the North Frontage Road across from the disabled vehicles.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was performed by Mississippi Highway Patrol. Upon searching, drugs were found within the vehicle. A run of the license plate also revealed the Kia was stolen.
