As expected, the school board keeps Shealy for another year

To no one’s surprise the Vicksburg Warren School District has kept Chad Shealy as Superintendent for another year. He will make at least $190,000 plus benefits for the upcoming school year.
The Vicksburg Daily News had this information but was waiting for it to become public information.
The past 12 months have been rough. There have been countless stories about issues with the district including the district losing its bond rating, leaving a child on a school bus that was found wandering down a busy street, the district remaining a “D” district and I don’t want to be negative about any of it. It’s a large district and mistakes happen.
But we should also note we have 2000 fewer students in the district than 10 years ago but the budget is substantially larger.
We have wonderful teachers and now we have great facilities but we also have educators who fear for their positions if they speak out. Once again, as soon as this story broke, messages started pouring in about it and how powerless the teachers feel.
Understand clearly, we have a ton of great teachers and administrators who are doing an incredible job. We have a lot to be proud of in our school district and community. But those who educate our children fear for their jobs if they speak up.
The school board has clearly chosen its path.
So, what do you think? We’d love to hear your comments below.
Oh, also, apparently, our graduation rates are up – does anyone know why?
