The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is currently conducting an investigation into the death of an unidentified man, whose body was discovered floating in the water at Belle Fontaine beach near the St. Andrews community on June 30.

According to Sheriff John Ledbetter, at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon, a boater reported spotting the body roughly three quarters of a mile offshore. Deputies, with the assistance of the Department of Marine Resources, successfully recovered the individual.

Authorities are hopeful that someone may be able to recognize the distinct tattoos found on the man, which include the word “Sticks” on his chest, a “TE” tattoo on his left arm, and a blue “V” on his left thigh. The man was observed wearing a blue “Evening in Paris” t-shirt, khaki shorts, a brown belt, and blue and white Under Armour shoes. Notably, he had on an “HIV Confidential Testing” bracelet and a “Know Your Status Be in Control” bracelet.

Sheriff John Ledbetter has confirmed that an autopsy is pending, and the case is currently being treated as a homicide. If you possess any information regarding the tattoos, the clothing worn by the individual, or any other relevant details, please contact the sheriff’s department at 228-769-7063.
