Baby in car chase shootout dies

WLOX in Biloxi is reporting the Biloxi Police Department has confirmed the baby involved in the 130 mile car chase that ended in a shootout has died.
The Biloxi PD is reporting the 3-month-old died early in the morning as a result of Smith engaging in a shootout with police on Monday.
30-year-old Eric Smith was accused of fatally shooting his former girlfriend and her nephew early Monday in East Baton Rouge Parish. Smith then allegedly took the baby and fled the scene.
Police pursued Smith from Louisiana into Mississippi and was finally stopped after spike strips were successfully deployed on I-10 near the Woolmarket exit.
Gunfire was exchanged between Smith and officers and the baby was injured during the shootout. It is unclear if Smith shot the baby or if the baby was injured in the crossfire. Initial reports from police indicated the baby was in stable condition, however the Biloxi PD confirmed the baby has died from his injuries.
Investigators from Louisiana identified the victims allegedly killed by Smith as Christin Parker, 32, and Brandon Parker, 26. Smith and Christin Parker are the parents of the child.
