Band-Aid plans to make products in a range of skin tones

In a social media post Thursday, Johnson & Johnson, the company behind Band-Aid products, announced it would be adding bandages in a range of skin tones.
Traditionally, Band-Aids can only be found in pinkish “flesh” tones, which do not match people with darker complexions.
“We hear you. We see you. We’re listening to you,” the post begins.
“We stand in solidarity with our Black colleagues, collaborators and community in the fight against racism, violence and injustice. We are committed to taking actions to create tangible change for the Black community.”
The post goes on to say the company is “committed to launching a range of bandages in light, medium and deep shades of Brown and Black skin tones that embrace the beauty of diverse skin,” and that it would be making a donation to Black Lives Matter.
“We promise that this is just the first among many steps together in the fight against systemic racism,” the post continues.
”We can, we must and we will do better.”
There is no indication when the new products will launch or how much the company’s donation will be.
Comments to the post generally indicated that the move was a long-time coming.
“Wow. It’s about damn time 😐” wrote one commenter.
“Finally,” wrote another, and “Super late,” a third.
“This is great. I wonder why it took this long,” seemed to sum up the majority of comments.
Band-Aids were invented in June 1920, making this year the product’s 100th anniversary. Over the years, the brand name has become synonymous with any adhesive bandage.
