Barge fire at Big River Shipbuilders

At around 3:20 p.m. Vicksburg firefighters were dispatched to Big River Shipbuilders at 1063 Haining Road for a reported barge fire.

Reportedly, a generator on top of a barge containing diesel fuel had caught fire.

Fire crews from Big River had the situation under control when the Vicksburg firefighters arrived.

Engines 6, 9, Platform 1, along with Rescue, Battalion 1, and Fire Chief Craig Danczyk responded. Emergency Management Director John Elfer and County Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs also responded to the call.

The U.S. Coast Guard has been notified about the fire.
