A man burglarized Battlefield Discount Drugs in Vicksburg early this morning.

The lone thief smashed through the front door at 3040 Indiana Ave. with a brick around 12:51 a.m., according to owner John Storey, and stole bottles of promethazine with codeine syrup, a drug generally prescribed as cold medication, an antihistamine and a narcotic pain reliever. It also enhances the high of alcohol and other drugs, Storey said.

Storey described the burglar as young, athletic and strong, around 5-foot-9-inches or 5-foot-10-inches in height and weighing around 165 to 170 pounds. He is right-handed and was wearing gloves, a hoody and baggy pants, a black belt and Air Jordan shoes, based on an surveillance videos of the incident. He brought his own bag to carry away his haul.

“He tooled around the drug store for approximately 30 minutes, casing everything out,” Storey said, adding that the man was in and out in about 90 seconds.

He indicated that the break-in is part of a string of organized drug-store robberies in Mississippi. Helping Hand Family Pharmacy in Vicksburg was burglarized Dec. 31.
