“My company encompasses a menagerie of components based on observations jointly studied by myself as well as my staff.” My city is not only very important in the position it holds in our nation’s history but also very unique in ways not often discussed because the Siege of Vicksburg overshadows almost everything else.”

“The Vicksburg National Military Park is the number one tourist attraction in Mississippi.
My interest in the tour business is largely due to Carol and Betram Hayes (Vicksburg Old Town Tours) who invited me to become a host in their company. Not many people are aware that they started the first tour business in the city. Being the consummate professionals who value what draws (sites, stories etc) tourists to Vicksburg my knowledge was greatly enhanced.”

The wonderful thing about history is that just as two people read a book and their perspectives can differ so it is with history. If you look hard enough and dig deep enough so much more can be understood and realized.

Battle Ground Tours started long before the registering of the LLC. In 2021 we outlined what exactly we would be. That proved too tall a task to settle on just being a tour company. Being more than a singular company was the only way to move forward. Our staff took a very long look at data furnished by the Vicksburg Chamber of Commerce as well as the Vicksburg Tourism Bureau. It clearly outlines what areas within the city deficiencies exist in attracting new tourists and better promoting tourism.

Our plan was to introduce a new way to view the sites that readily exist in our town. Two custom Polaris Slingshots found a home here. Next a building was not only needed but would have to serve a purpose other than a storage facility. Possible space was identified but needed extensive remodeling. Eric Perea ,AIA President of CIRE 3 Architects El Paso, Texas was flown in and spent four days being amazed at the architecture that exists in the city and cautioning us as to what would and what would not accommodate our overall project goals.

631 Poplar Street not only met but exceeded our needs in so many respects. Concern for the youth of Vicksburg was a major bullet point in our overall plan. Two acres along with an 8500 sq ft building has now grown to adding an additional 3800 sq ft facility. The building will house some of the most amazing Marvel and DC life- size statues in the world. Themed birthday parties, indoor basketball competition with goals and score clock, sit down table soccer, PLINKO, hungry hippo competition inflatable are just the beginning of in house excitement that will be readily available.

Having a logo that is reflective of Vicksburg’s forever place in history consumed us for well over four months. In late December 2022 we all agreed on a design that would show well on all the merchandise we planned to sell, and grab the attention of those considering visiting the city. Our Mayor and the Bicentennial Committee have promised big events for the upcoming event. We plan on doing our part and more to make those planning the Tricentennial have the hardest job imaginable.

We invite you to take a more reflective look at how impactful and prosperous Vicksburg was Pre- Civil War. Happy Bicentennial Vicksburg!
