Be aware of possible severe weather this afternoon

Stay alert for severe weather this afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Jackson says the risk is slight to marginal that central Mississippi will see severe storms starting this afternoon and into this evening, primarily along and north of Interstate 20.

The main threat will be damaging winds of 60 mph, but a tornado or two is also possible.

A flood warning is in effect for the Big Black River near Bovina affecting Hinds and Warren counties, at West affecting Attala and Holmes counties, and near Bentonia affecting Madison and Yazoo counties.
