Beloved Retired Police Captain Frank Kappler passes away

Retired Vicksburg Police Captain Frank Kappler passed away at Central Mississippi Medical Center on Monday at the age of 78. Kappler was known as a man deeply devoted to his family and his community.

Kappler was an Air Force Veteran who joined the department following his military career and and served the citizens of Vicksburg for 37 years. During this time, he mentored and supervised hundreds of officers with his humble, fatherly approach.

Numerous officers have risen to various ranks within the department count the training received under Kappler as a key reason for their success, including Deputy Chief Bobby Stewart who was a nephew of the Captain. Kappler was known as a firm but fair officer.

“He was a gentle giant. The short time I worked with him, I never saw him get mad. He was a nice man and he will be missed.” – Chief Milton Moore

Following his retirement, he went on to work in Security at ERDC for 12 years, until his complete retirement 8 years ago.

Kappler lost his beloved wife of 54 years, Jean, a few months ago. We at VDN express our sincere condolences to the Kappler family and thank you, sir, for your many years of service to our community.
