Billy Glenn Palmertree, 1942-2021
Billy Glenn Palmertree, 79, of Vicksburg, passed away at home on Sunday, August 1, 2021, surrounded by his friends and family.
Billy was born on May 3, 1942, in Indianola, MS to Zona and Wilson Hazell Palmertree. He attended Mississippi Delta Community College where he played football and baseball. It was there that he met the love of his life, Betty Ann, and has been married to her for 58 years. As newlyweds, they moved to Vicksburg so Billy could continue his career at Waterway Experiment Station/ERDC. Billy, together with Lewis Naron and James H. Robinson invented and patented an Automated Cone Penetrometer. Patent Number 5726349 in May 1995.
Billy is survived by his wife, Betty; son Roger (Lisa); daughter Candace Creston (Tommy); son Barry (Andrea); grandchildren Blakele, Megan Wise (Taylor), Mallory and Wilson; great-grandchildren Asher and Reed Wise; his brother Jimmy Palmertree of Gadsden, AL.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Glenwood Funeral Home. Rev. T. J. Tennison will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clyde Roberson, Mark McCann, Bobby Jenkins, Dean Andrews, Jr., Tommy Creston and Taylor Wise. Honorary pallbearers will be Dana Kenney, Angie Presley, Ann Sellers, Beverly Spenser, Becki Brown Columbus, Trey Thorne, Kacy Presley, Doug Whittington, Brandon Young, Stan Austin, Todd Dykes, Kevin Warren, John Robert Ward, Rob McCain, Joyce Wells, Steve Bailey, Alan Atwood and Danny Moss.
