Black ice causes several accidents Wednesday morning

As the curfew temporarily lifts at noon Wednesday, officials are urging folks that need to get supplies to use extreme caution and beware of invisible black ice on the roadways.

Vicksburg Police are investigating several accidents Wednesday morning. According to Deputy Chief Bobby Stewart, all are related to drivers encountering black ice and loosing control.

Fortunately, no injuries are involved.

Chief Stewart reminds the public to slow down to a minimum speed, as you often can not see the frozen patches of roadway. He added keeping your vehicle at a low speed gives you a greater chance maintaining control.

Officials are still encouraging the public to only get out on the roads if it is absolutely necessary. There are numerous vehicles in both the city and county that have become disabled and abandoned creating further hazards.
