Bond set for murder suspects; bond also set for child pornography case and other crimes

At 11:48 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Speed Street for reports of shots being fired.  At the scene, they found a 15-year-old male who had received a gunshot wound to his left arm and a second 15-year-old male who had been shot in his left foot.

A few minutes later, another call came in about a vehicle taking a male victim to Merit Health River Region Medical Center that had stopped near the intersection of Clay Street and Mission 66. Inside the vehicle was 13-year-old, Carleone Woodland, who had received a single gunshot wound to his chest. Woodland was transported to Merit Health River Region via ambulance and was pronounced dead at the hospital.  

The other victims were treated and released from Merit Health River Region.

Demetrius Cormier, 16, of Vicksburg was arrested Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Cormier is charged with one count of First Degree Murder and three counts of Aggravated Assault. He appeared in Vicksburg Municipal Court on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Judge Penny Lawson set his bond at $3,500,000.00 and bound him over to the Warren County Grand Jury.

Koury Lawrence, 19, of Vicksburg was arrested Wednesday, February 1, 2023.  He is also charged with one count of First Degree Murder and threecounts of Aggravated Assault. Lawrence appearedin Vicksburg Municipal Court on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Judge Penny Lawson set his bond at $3,500,000.00 and bound him over to the Warren County Grand Jury.

Phillip Moore, Jr, 16 of Vicksburg, was arrestedWednesday, February 1, 2023, on one count of First Degree Murder and three counts of Aggravated Assault.  Moore appeared in Vicksburg Municipal Court on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Judge Penny Lawson set his bond at $3,500,000.00 and bound him over to the Warren County Grand Jury.

Vicksburg Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

Vicksburg Police Department investigators arrested Carl Smith, 29, of Vicksburg Wednesday, February 1, 2023, on ten counts of Possession of Child Pornography and two counts of Sexual Battery. Appearing before Judge Penny Lawson in Vicksburg Municipal Court on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, Smith was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury on a $9,500,000.00 bond

Shaderika Turner, 20, of Vicksburg made her initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, charged with Shooting Into an Occupied Vehicle. This incident occurred August 19, 2022, on Bowmar Avenue when she allegedly shot into a car being driven by her then-boyfriend.  Judge Penny Lawson set Turner’s  bond at $200,000.00 and bound her over to the Warren County Grand Jury.
