Brian Greer, 40, the suspected shooter in an incident Friday at a Bovina campground, is in police custody.

After a brief foot chase, Yazoo County authorities captured Greer at around 11:45 a.m. Saturday on State Highway 3 just across the Warren County line. Witnesses spotted Greer around 11: 30 a.m. walking across a field, and then on Highway 3 with a gun in his hand.

The incident began at around 5:30 p.m. Friday, when Vicksburg Warren E911 received a call from an 83-year-old woman on Warriors Trail stating that her grandson had just shot his sister.

Deputy Sgt. Silento McMorris ascertained that the victim was at the campground behind Bovina Grocery located on Tiffentown Road. There, deputies and emergency medical personnel found Heather Hearn, 42, suffering from three gunshot wounds including one to the head and two to her upper body.

Greer left the scene of the shooting in Hearn’s 2006 Pontiac G-6. Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said the vehicle was recovered Saturday north of Redwood on Ball Ground Road in Warren County.

Hearn was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center by Vicksburg Fire Medic 30. A decision was made not to airlift Hearn due to incoming inclement weather. Her current condition is not known.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace declined to identify Greer immediately following the incident citing an ongoing investigation.

Authorities in Claiborne, Hinds and Yazoo searched several locations unsuccessfully during the night.
