The Webb County District Attorneys Office, which is part of the 111th Judicial District in Texas, announced in a press release that former Vicksburg resident Colton Branning, 30, was recently indicted for the murder of 25-year-old Justin Heath Allen.

It is alleged that the duo were in Laredo, Texas to engage in the smuggling of both narcotics and people. Branning is accused of taking Allen to a dead end of Clark Blvd. and shooting him in the head.

Laredo Police on patrol discovered Allen’s body. Branning was questioned within days of the homicide, but was subsequently released by authorities. He was later arrested by Covington, Louisiana authorities on March 25 and extradited back to Texas.

Branning remains jailed under a $250,000 bond. The case will be heard by District Judge Monica N. Notzon.
