Warren County Fire Co-ordinator Jerry Briggs is requesting Warren County residents refrain from outside burning until conditions improve.

“This time of year all the vegetation is dead and dry, the wind is high, humidity is low and it is a perfect situation for an outside fire to spread,” said Briggs.

County firefighters have fought almost a dozen outside fires in the past couple of days including a mean one on Joyce Lane that spread to a shed. Briggs cautions, “It is horrible to think about, but if you burn your trash and it spreads quickly due to weather conditions to your neighbor’s property you could be held liable for any damage.”

Currently, Madison County and Hinds County are fighting a major brush fire near the Livingston area of the Natchez Trace. Even dumping charcoal can ignite a fire.

“Please refrain from burning anything outside until conditions improve,” begged Briggs.
