After multiple dominating performances and countless days and nights of training, St. Aloysius football player Jake Brister has decided to sign with Louisiana Tech.

Before 2021, Brister only had experience playing peewee football when he decided to get back on the field as a junior under Head Coach Bubba Nettles. He averaged 34.8 yards per punt in his junior year before training heavily for his final season.

Brister decided that he wanted to go from good to great in football and sought help to complete that task.

“I went to a camp this summer just to learn a few things and Devon Bell saw potential in me so I started training with him and that’s when I realized I might have a future in this,” Brister said.

Just a year later, Brister upped his stats by averaging over 49 yards per punt and becoming a five-star athlete in 2022. He was also selected to participate in the MAIS All-Star Game along with Nettles who was coaching.

Although his senior year was great in statistics, his fondest memory is defeating Cathedral in his junior year.

Last month Brister officially committed to LA Tech over teams such as Troy and USM, along with multiple junior colleges.

“The head coach was by our side the whole time and campus itself just felt like home and that’s where my heart told me I needed to go,” Brister said.

Brister, one of the top punters in the country, holds the sport close to him and feels it has given him something special.

“Football means everything to me and forming a bond with your teammates and enjoying every second of it is a special thing,” he said.

Although Brister did the work, he thanked those close to him for sticking with him along the way.

“I want to first thank God and my parents, all of my coaches, Devon Bell, Jaime Kohl and all of the LA Tech coaches.”

Brister is the son of Jacob and Kara Brister.
