Brown selected as the VDN 2022-2023 Volleyball Coach of the Year

Vicksburg High School’s Deborah Brown has been named the VDN Volleyball Coach of the Year.
Brown, who just finished her sixth year as head coach, led the Missy Gators to a district championship this past season, as well as earning multiple other accomplishments.
“They really stepped up as a team this year, and we won more games, played better teams, and we beat teams that normally get the best of us,” Brown said.
VHS took a loss in the first game of the season but quickly got things in order as they would soon go on an eight-game winning streak. They would also secure big wins over Natchez and Florence as their performance continued to progress in the right direction throughout the season.
Brown is no stranger to leading VHS to greatness as she wrapped up her fifth season as head coach and earned four district titles in the process. This is the second time that Brown has won this award, and she’s already in the middle of preparing her players for next season.
“It’s amazing, but it’s not about me because it’s about my girls, and they make me who I am,” Brown said.
The Missy Gators are now in the middle of summer workouts, and they plan to aim even higher in 2023.
“We’re still going to continue to play hard, just like we do every year, and we want to eventually make it to the semifinals,” said Brown.
