Bulldogs knock off 18th ranked Tigers
The Hinds Community College men’s basketball team (5-4, 1-0 conf.) achieved their first conference and home win of the season Thursday when they knocked-off 18th ranked Northeast Mississippi Community College 81-70.
“This win is the 4th in the last 4 seasons over a ranked opponent for this program,” said head coach Jonathan Nevol. “For us to start 1-0 in conference is more important than anything. They were favored to win the state, so it shows just how much this group is capable of this year.”
Leading the charge in points for the Bulldogs was Deandre Buggage (Gray, La.) with 21 points, four assists and three boards. Sophomore forward Jalen Myers (Madison, Ala.) recorded his 7th double-double of the season with his performance against the Tigers. Myers finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one block. Three other Bulldogs also reached double digits in scoring in the contest. Sophomore forward Damarion Arrington (Jackson) and sophomore guard Martarious Burrell (Yazoo City) both cashed in 11 points, while sophomore guard Kyle Hayman (Monroe, La.) recorded 10 points. Hayman also finished with eight rebounds in the game.
“The team did a great job tonight of playing together on both ends of the floor,” Nevol said. “We have to continue that on this process and keep trusting each other. Our effort was great and we had guys step up and make game-winning plays.”
The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday when they travel to Poplarville to take on Pearl River Community College. The game is set to tip-off at 6 p.m. and will be livestreamed on prccmedia.com.
