A Warren County resident was shot dead in his front yard in Camelot Estates subdivision on Tuesday night, authorities say.

Just after 7 p.m., the Sheriff’s department was alerted by a 911 call of a shooting in the 6000 block of Castle Road. Responding deputies found a 57-year-old male in his front yard suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Paramedics arrived and shortly thereafter summoned Warren County Coroner Kelda Bailess who pronounced the victim deceased.

The first deputies to arrive put out a description of the shooter, a black male with a blue shirt.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace says that multiple crime scene investigators are working the scene and several others are assigned to the case as well.

When asked if residents in the area should be concerned for their safety, Sheriff Pace assured us that “you are safe, very safe.”

“We are following promising leads,” Sheriff Pace said. “Because of the fact that is a very fluid and ongoing investigation I cannot give any further details at this time.”

Although numerous reports on social media have named the victim, the Vicksburg Daily News will not release the identity until it comes through official sources. Following that protocol ensures that the family is aware of the incident and doesn’t find out from the news.
