Candidate kills his wife, then shoots himself

Carl L. Robinson, 43, a candidate for the Mississippi House of Representatives in District 5, reportedly shot and killed his wife Latoya Thompson, 33, before turning the gun on himself.

The shooting happened inside Marshall County’s Williams Medical Clinic in Potts Camp, Miss. around 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to Fox 13. Both victims were residents of Lamar, Miss.

Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said clinic staff unsuccessfully attempted to perform CPR on Thompson.

Robinson was a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of Rust College with a degree in business administration, according to his Facebook page. Robinson killed himself after shooting Thompson. No information is currently available regarding his motive.

Mississippi House District 5 is in the northern part of the state and includes the city of Holly Springs in Marshall County.
