Two Madison County deputies were shot this morning in Canton, Miss.

The deputies were responding to a domestic call complicated by a kidnapping and hostage situation, reports the Clarion Ledger. By 8:30 a.m., the incident was over and a suspect, who was also shot, was in custody.

One of the deputies was shot “at least once” in the head, Canton Mayor William Truly told the paper. That deputy was transported by air to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. One of the deputies had surgery this morning, but no other information was released about either deputy.

The suspect was also taken to a hospital.

No further information is available at this time.
