Canton man gets $30,000 bond for stealing a casino van


A Canton man had a very bad Wednesday in Vicksburg.
Vicksburg police officers arrested Melvin Gilmore, 28, for the theft of a van.
He allegedly stole a white 2008 Chevrolet Express van from the Waterview Casino shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 29. Police took him into custody at the Dixiana Motel later the same day.
Gilmore also had his initial court appearance Wednesday before Judge Angela Carpenter in the Vicksburg Municipal Court. She set his bond at $30,000 and bound him over to the Warren County grand jury.
In an unrelated incident, Wednesday at 11:44 p.m. officers responded to the Motel 6 at 4137 Interstate 20 Frontage Road, in reference to an auto burglary. The victim stated someone stole a .22-caliber rifle from his vehicle.
