In response to a disturbance call on Tuesday, Capitol Police apprehended Jeffery Webb Jr., 38, near an intramural basketball game location at 431 North Street, Jackson, Mississippi. The situation escalated after Webb was involved in a verbal dispute, reportedly threatening to shoot several basketball players.

According to a press release by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, police were informed that after the verbal altercation, Webb moved towards his vehicle and retrieved a backpack. He was intercepted by an on-duty security guard before he could re-enter the building. Webb was subsequently located by the responding officers near his vehicle.

Upon investigation, a 9mm handgun was found in his vehicle, along with the earlier mentioned backpack. Webb was taken into custody without any further incidents and was later charged with making a terroristic threat.

Capitol Police Chief Bo Luckey acknowledged the incident, stating the importance of addressing any threat of violence seriously in the current times. He added, “Capitol Police will continue our mission to do all we can to ensure public safety to those within the CCID.”
